Our Services
Applied Behavioral Consulting offers two service models - either a Direct Therapy Model or a Consultation Model. The recommended model will be based on the specific needs of your child and your family. The goal of each model is to provide the best possible service and long term outcome for each family and their child.
ABA Therapy
Within our Direct Therapy Model, ABC provides one or more Behavior Technicians to work directly with your child in a 1:1 setting on skill acquisition, verbal behavior, and behavior management goals. An assessment will be completed by one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to assess the specific needs of each child.
Each client program is supervised by one of ABC’s BCBAs or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA). All of ABC’s BCaBAs are supervised regularly by a BCBA. Private pay families may elect to have a Senior Behavior Analyst Trainee (Masters-level Behavior Technician working toward BCBA certification) supervise their child’s program.
Parent Training is a crucial part of every ABA program and is required within the Direct Therapy Model. Parents will gain the essential knowledge needed to help their child generalize acquired skills and achieve behavioral goals.
ABA Consultation Model
Our ABA Consultation Model exclusively provides parent training to client families. This model may be recommended for some of our clients based on assessed need. Parent Trainings can occur in the home setting with parents and caregivers or in community settings (daycare, preschool, or private school) for teachers and school aides.
Each consultation will provide education on and the implementation of behavior management strategies based on the principles of ABA. We will demonstrate how to effectively respond to observed behaviors in order to decrease the occurrence of behaviors in the future. Behaviors we can provide intervention on may include physical aggression, temper tantrums, self-injury, property destruction, or non-compliance. Based on antecedent and consequence strategies, we will teach you how to reduce your child’s motivation to engage in select problem behaviors and we will help you teach your child a more appropriate way to communicate his/her needs. Any interventions recommended will be modified to each child’s and family’s needs based on the function of the child’s behavior.
Within this model, the first session is spent observing existing contingencies (motivating factors and current consequences), which helps us to determine the function of the behavior. Based on this observation, we will provide you with recommendations and train you on how to implement them. The training consists of a teaching and modeling component. After that, our level of involvement depends on the needs of your family.
We do not require a minimum number of sessions. However, based on our experience and peer-reviewed research, families whom we see on a consistent basis (at least short-term) that follow through with treatment recommendations tend to see more progress. If desired, we are also available to accompany you on community outings, such as going to stores, restaurants or anywhere else where your child may engage in the most behavior.
Consultations will be provided by a BCBA or a BCaBA. Private pay families may choose to receive consultations by a Senior Behavior Analyst Trainee (Masters-level Behavior Technician working toward BCBA certification).
Insurance
We are currently in network with most major insurance companies including Medicaid. If we are not in network with your current insurance carrier, we will attempt to enter into a single case agreement with the insurance company that allows us to provide services for your child. We also accept private pay contracts for families who may not be eligible for ABA benefits through their current insurance.
